On July the 9th thirty-five members and friends travelled to Truro, for the Gardens of Cornwall holiday organised by Clive. Traveling down to our hotel, we called at Heale Gardens in Wiltshire, where lunch was provided for us, followed by a look around the grounds. The Gardens of Heligan were first on our itinerary the next day, it really was a great place to visit with a vast variety of plants to view, and a walk through the "jungle" was a fine experience, even if the steep climb back was rather testing on the legs. In the afternoon we moved on to Pine Lodge Gardens a few miles away, which consisted of a series of garden rooms connected by paths, with a lake at the bottom of the hill, this was another great garden to visit. On day three, in the morning a visit to Roseland House, a one acre garden which is home to two national collections of clematis. After a rather adventurous trip down narrow lanes in our coach, lunch was laid on at the Kings Head at Ruan Lanihorne. In the afternoon onwards, to Poppy House a plants man's garden of about an acre, packed with plants of all kinds, a really inspirational place for all gardeners to visit On our final day we went to Trevarno Estate and Gardens whose extensive woodland walks and formal gardens were a pleasure to walk through, the National Museum of Gardening is in the grounds and was well worth a visit. In the afternoon on our return to Truro we had some free time to explore the town. The following day on our way home we stopped at Buscott Park in Oxfordshire, with fine grounds, and in the house is the Faringdon Collection which made an interesting visit. Finally a big thank you to Clive for organising another fine holiday.
