The holiday to South Wales was enjoyed by all the party, who travelled by coach to the Park Hotel, Tenby, which was set on the cliffs overlooking the town, with a splendid view of the harbour.
On the way to Tenby we stopped of at Bowood House in Wiltshire to tour the house and take in the extensive grounds, followed by lunch.
The following day we had to miss our first stop which proved inaccessible by coach, but we carried on to Laughne where, we visited the house of Dylan Thomas and also his boathouse where he did his writing, followed by lunch which was arranged at the tea rooms. After lunch we took a short stroll through the town to a garden called "The Cors", this we were told meant bog in Welsh, Never have I been in such a moist garden, the soil seemed to be saturated were ever one walked, everything that grew there was very lush and verdant.
On Sunday the Botanic Gardens of Wales was our destination, this was our only wet day, the gardens looked great but a lot of our time was spent in the greenhouses, and we returned to the hotel earlier than planned. As things always turn out the sun came out, and it was a sunny end to the day, which gave most of the party an opportunity to see something of Tenby.
Day four and we visited a garden centre with a show garden attached, here everyone seemed to buy plants, which is the thing gardeners do where ever they are. After lunch which was laid on at a pub, we went to "Llwyngarreg" a three acre garden with a fine display of plants including a great drift of candelabra primulas, after our tour of the gardens we were served afternoon tea.
The next day we made our way home, calling in at Great Chalford Manor House where we had a conducted tour followed by a look at the grounds. Then homeward to Hatfield Peverel, where we arrived in the early evening. It was a very enjoyable break and thanks to Clive for organising it.
