T his is the Schedule for the Autumn Show which will be held on the 29th September 2012 at Hatfield Peverel Village Hall.If you wish to enter and have not yet got a Year Book please obtain one from Mrs K Butcher tel 01245 380532. Fill in the entry form on the back page and follow the instructions on how to enter.

Section I Open. Vegetables & Fruit

CLASS

1.    Collection of potatoes, three distinct varieties, three of each varieties.

2.    Runner beans, six pods.

3.    Beetroot, three round.

4.    Parsnip, three.

5.    Brussel sprouts, six.

6.    Cabbage, two with minimum of 5cm of stalk.

7.    Cauliflower, one with minimum of 5cm of stalk.

8.    Tomatoes, five.

9.    Tomatoes, six cherry type.

10.                Celery, two heads.

11.                Leeks, three.

12.                Carrots, five other than long, no more than 8cm of tops.

13.                Carrots, five long, no more than 8cm of tops.

14.                Onions, five grown from seed.

15.                Onions, five autumn sown or grown from sets.

16.                Potatoes, five white, one variety.

17.                Potatoes, five coloured, one variety.

18.                Shallots, nine exhibition.

19.                Shallots, Nine pickling. Not more than 3cm dia.

20.                Marrow, one fit for table use.

21.                Courgette two.

22.                Sweet peppers, two.

23.                Cucumbers, two.

24.                Any other vegetable.

25.                Heaviest onion, must be sound.

26.                Heaviest potato, must be sound.

27.                Heaviest marrow, must be sound.

28.                Longest runner bean, must be sound.

All fruit must have their stalks attached.

This is the competition for the plants that were on sale at the Spring Plant Sale.
 

Section N Open Cookery

Jars must be clear glass, up to l lb ( 454gm) size, completely filled, named, dated and with no trade names visible.

Closures may be screw cap or jam pot cover.

 250 Jar of chutney.

251 Jar of pickles.

252 Jar of stone fruit jam.

253 Jar of soft fruit jam.

254 Jar o f jelly.

       All the following items should be covered with cling film or placed in Ziplock     bags

255 Millionaires shortbread 3.

256 A loaf of bread

257 A Victoria sponge (jam filling only)

258 Sausage rolls 3.

259                                £10  PRIZE  FOR  BEST  EXHIBIT  SPONSORED  BY  THE  SOCIETY

Sticky date cake

8 oz dates                                                            4 oz raisins                                                         

4 oz currants                                                      6 oz sultanas

Large tin condensed milk                              10 oz margarine

1/2 pint water

 

Place the above ingredients into a small saucepan, bring to the boil and simmer for 3 minutes.  Pour into a large bowl and cool for 30 minutes.

 

Then add:

 

5 oz plain flour                                  

5 oz wholemeal flour

3/4 tsp bicarbonate of soda                         

1 tbsp marmalade (optional)

 

Then stir well.  Pour mixture into a greased and lined 8" round or 7" square tin.  Bake at 170oC/325oF/Gas Mark 3 for 21/2 to 3 hours.  Cool in tin for 5 minutes.  Will keep well if stored in an airtight tin.

Entries are FREE. Childs age must be shown on entry form.

Consuming and fuming and quick as can be
 
The flame of the candle burns steady and slow
In a halo of peace it will give you its glow
It shines with a light unruffled and true
A still flame a-gleam round a centre of blue


Section R Open Photography

Rules for this section


Any amateur photographer may enter a photograph they have taken. Photographs may be colour or monochrome; they must be unframed unmounted and non- composite (except for class 454) and not exceed    18 x 13cm (7 x 5 inches). A maximum of THREE PHOTOGRAPHS per PERSON per CLASS is allowed (EXCEPT Class 254 where only ONE entry per PERSON is allowed)  each photograph requires an entry fee. No person who's profession is photography or photographic services may enter. Entries not to have been exhibited previously at Hatfield Peverel & Ulting Horticultural Society Shows.

BEST ALLOTMENT TROPHY

The two trophies for the 'old' and 'new' sites will be presented at the Show to the allotment holders having best satisfied the criteria set out by the Allotment Association. An independent judge was appointed by the Association. For full details please contact Sheila Fullbrook association sec.
